Pediatric Care

What is pediatric care?

Pediatric care is a specialized medical field for people under the age of 18. The right pediatrician doesn’t just help treat your child’s illnesses and injuries, but also helps them lead their healthiest lives through preventive care and ongoing monitoring of their growth and development.

Some of the services Dr. Macfield offers as a pediatric care provider include:

  • Annual well-visits
  • Physical exams for school or sports
  • Nutritional guidance and support, including supplements when necessary
  • Vaccinations
  • Treatment for illnesses
  • Treatment for chronic diseases
  • Treatment for injuries

How do I find the right pediatrician?

Finding a pediatrician whom your child likes and whom you trust can be challenging. You need to ensure they’re a fit for your family in two areas: medical expertise and bedside manner.

Medical expertise

The right pediatrician effectively treats any health concern that arises in your child’s body. Childhood and adolescence are pivotal times for the body’s growth and development. It’s important to have a pediatric care provider who is able to offer accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

At Breton Village Pediatrics & Family Medicine, Dr. Macfield can leverage his many years of pediatric care experience to ensure that his pediatric patients lead the healthiest, most balanced lives possible. He’s experienced in treating a range of chronic conditions in children, including:

  • Allergies
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Immune dysfunctions
  • Asthma
  • ADD
  • ADHD

Bedside manner

When it comes to pediatric care, medical expertise alone isn’t enough. Many kids feel nervous at the doctor’s office. This can lead to a lifetime of avoiding doctor’s visits, which means you miss out on screenings needed to be proactive about protecting your long-term health.

Instead, Dr. Macfield and the entire Breton Village Pediatrics & Family Medicine team are committed to helping every pediatric patient who walks through their doors feel welcomed and comfortable. They work to build relationships with their patients so they can feel relaxed as they get the care they need.

How often should my child see their pediatric care provider?

That depends on their age. In the first year, most parents visit their pediatrician with their infant every couple of months. Between the ages of 1 and 3, those visits usually take place every 3-6 months. Then, once your child turns 4, annual well-visits help your child grow healthily throughout their lives.

If you’ve been looking for the right pediatrician for your family, call Breton Village Pediatrics & Family Medicine, or schedule your appointment online.
